Outerwears are designed to keep the larger particles like sand, dirt, clay and trail debris from getting to and clogging your filter whether it is Foam, K&N style or Paper. Outerwears water repellent pre-filters will keep splashes of water or mud from saturating your air filter which can mean the differance between continuing your ride or possible blowing your motor. Unlike foam or stretch type pre-filters, Outerwears contain uniform micron openings and are run dry. Only those particles of dirt smaller than .005" get to the air filter, the larger particles fall off the pre-filter. Those other pre-filters stop dirt though the use of filter oil, problem is everything sticks so it doesn't take long for the filter to become clogged
